In just the first full week of February, the U.S. Border Patrol Rio Grande Valley Sector has seized nearly four tons of marijuana, leading the nation in marijuana seizures.
The McAllen and Rio Grande City Border Patrol Stations account for the majority of the marijuana seizures with nearly three tons of marijuana confiscated in their respective areas of responsibility. The total marijuana seized during this period has a combined weight of 7,696 pounds with an estimated street value of $5,845,212.00.
“The Rio Grande Valley Sector is the most active and volatile area along the southwest border for smuggling and trafficking of illegal aliens and narcotics,” said Chief Patrol Agent Manuel Padilla, Jr. “Transnational criminal organizations continue to exploit the porous border in our western corridor and jeopardize the safety of our communities.”
