New Report: 55% of Pot Smokers in Nation’s Capital are “White-Collar”

October 15, 2017

White-collar workers account for 55 percent of marijuana consumers in the nation’s capital while another 38 percent of Washington, D.C.’s tokers are reportedly “more likely to have a government job than the average person.”

These were just some of the more intriguing results to come out of a recent study performed by the Green Economics series and published by Green Market Report.

Deplorable to some but encouraging to many, the report found the Washington, D.C. marijuana market, where national cannabis policies are debated, nurtured, or killed, has more than its fair share of politically-connected smokers.

For the study, researchers polled 1,368 marijuana consumers in the nation’s capital. Representative of D.C.’s surrounding area – including portions of Virginia, Maryland, and West Virginia – the investigation reports that 41.7 percent of the federal government’s employees in Washington, D.C. approve of marijuana legalization.

Providing hope for the future of America’s marijuana reform movement, the D.C. report indicates that a majority (64%) of those self-identified, federally-employed pot smokers believe adult-use marijuana should be legalized for recreational consumption.

“Considering Washington, D.C. is where our federal legislation is created, results that indicate a significant number of government employees favoring the legality of its consumption as well as consuming it themselves, is clear indication that prohibition is outdated,” said Jeffrey Stein of Consumer Research Around Cannabis.

About Monterey Bud: Born in Long Beach, raised on the central coast: I surf, dab, burn, and blog – though not necessarily in that order. I'm a husband, a father and a lifelong consumer of connoisseur grade weed. I don't drink alcohol or consume any other "drugs." I consider myself to be living proof that weed is not a gateway drug. If it were, I'd be in some serious trouble. Instead, as a 50-year-old ex-realtor that has been smoking weed for nearly 80% of my life (just did the math) ... I can only say, marijuana is safer than prescription pills or alcohol could ever hope to be for calming what stirs the savage beast.
