Reggae fans have been buzzing about Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley’s recently released solo album “Stony Hill,” while investors are watching Marley’s cannabis company, Stony Hill Corp. (OTC:STNY) of the same name.
Stony Hill Corp., is Damian Marley's company that looks to invest in many areas of the cannabis arena. Sharing the same name as his fist solo album in over a decade, many have been wondering the meaning of Stony Hill.
With popular songs on the recent album like “Medication,” it’s no secret that Damian is a leader and an advocate for the de-stigmatization of medical marijuana. He even filmed his music video for “Medication” in a medical marijuana cultivation operation! As the video starts you hear patient testimonials like "I achieved complete clinical remission from the cannabis alone," and "the pain would dissapear."
While this song gave us hints as to Damian's vision of Stony Hill, we got the full scoop thanks to his recent interview with Joseph Longo of The Associated Press.
When asked what Stony Hill means, Damian commented, "I chose “Stony Hill” as the name of the album to reflect my upbringing...my father came from the ghetto and was able to have a child like myself who was born and raised in an uptown, privileged area."
After that, Marley was asked about the inspiration behind starting Stony Hill Corp. - "Well, it came about first and foremost of just being so closely involved with marijuana over the years as part of our culture. Marijuana has been such a big part of our lives...I think it’s only right that we partake in the business now."
The recent album certainly gave us a closer look at Damian's beliefs regarding cannabis as a medicinal plant, but his recent interview showed us that the meaning Stony Hill has nothing to do with getting stoned.
