Since being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 1999, talk show host Montel Williams has been a major advocate for the medical marijuana community. After realizing the "horrific" side of opioid-based pain medications, it became clear to him that there should be other symptom management options.

Montel switched over to cannabis, and now claims that marijuana saved him from opiate addiction. He's going to get busier and busier now that he's launching his own medical marijuana products through his company Lenitiv Scientific LLC, but he still has time for compassionate efforts like helping Arkansas' medical marijuana community.

Earlier this week, the Arkansas Medical Marijuana Association announced that they will be hosting a medical marijuana and regulatory symposium on Wednesday, September 20, covering these hot industry issues. The keynote address will be given by none other than Montel Williams. Not only will Montel be delivering the keynote address at AMMA's syposium, he has also accepted a position on the Arkansas Medical Marijuana Association's board, according to the Arkansas Times.

“Five years ago, I was in Little Rock on the steps of the State Capitol helping to raise up the voices of the many seriously ill Arkansans who were begging for some compassion. I’ll never forget them, so it’s truly an honor for me to join the board of the Arkansas Medical Marijuana Association as your program begins its implementation,” Williams said. “I believe a well-regulated, patient-focused medical marijuana program in Arkansas will lead to conversations in state capitols throughout the South.”

For those interested in attending the free AMMA symposium, it "will be held 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sept. 20 at the UALR's William H. Bowen School of Law, 1201 McMath Ave., in Little Rock."
