Early yesterday morning, Border Patrol Agents seized more than 1,300 pounds of cannabis near Los Arrieros, Texas. That's over half a ton of weed!

The seizure occurred on Wednesday, August 9th at approximately 1:30 a.m. when Rio Grande City agents observed an older model SUV speeding around without any headlights or taillights on. The vehicle was coming from an area known by Customs for narcotics and human smuggling. As agents attempted to make contact with the vehicle, it veered off the roadway and ran into a utilities pole.

The driver abandoned the SUV and fled into the brush nearby. As agents approached the SUV to check for additional occupants, they discovered the vehicle was loaded with bundles of marijuana. Looks like he got away! A total of 75 bundles of marijuana were seized, weighing 1,351 pounds and estimated to be worth over $1,000,000.00. The marijuana was be turned over to the Drug Enforcement Agency and Border Patrol seized the SUV.
