Earlier today, MedReleaf Corp. (TSX:LEAF)(OTC:MEDFF) announced that the company has completed its first international export. This transaction is also significant because it represents the first ever export of cannabis oil to Brazil!

This export is being made specifically for the treatment of Sofia Langenbach. Sofia is a child with a rare genetic disorder that causes early onset and difficult to control seizures. Her symptoms have only been alleviated by the use of medical cannabis and because of this her mother won a landmark Brazilian court case permitting her to cultivate her own cannabis for Sofia's treatment.
Sofia's mother Ms. Margarette Santos de Brito is one of Brazil's leading medicinal cannabis advocates and currently serves as president of APEPI ("Support for Research and Medical Cannabis Patients"), Brazil's first association for cannabis patients. Ms. Santos is "very thankful we received this first import of MedReleaf's medical grade cannabis oil for Sofia".
MedReleaf's CEO, Neil Closner had this to day about the company's milestone export:
"We have been working with Margarette Santos De Brito (president of Brazilian NGO APEPI), who has been a tireless, high-profile public champion of medical cannabis and whose daughter Sofia is in dire need of cannabis-based pharmaceutical products to manage her symptoms. This is an important step in achieving MedReleaf's goals of ensuring that patients in need around the world receive the highest quality cannabis-based pharmaceutical products available and in realizing our long-term growth plans."
In midday trading Tuesday, shares of MedReleaf on the TSX are gaining more than 2%. The company's OTC Markets listing is fractionally in the red on lighter than average trading volume. MedReleaf is up roughly 7% from the company's IPO this June.
