In case you are not yet familiar with the organization, The National Hemp Association is a 501(c)6 trade association that supports the expansion and development of all aspects of the newly emerging industrial hemp industry. As of today, the NHA has a new executive director!
Based in Colorado, the National Hemp Association serves everyone in the hemp industry from hemp farmers, processors and manufacturers to researchers, policy makers, and legislators.
Additionally, the NHA works to inform and include the investment community as well as citizens who are pro-hemp. Given industrial hemp's potential to be a major U.S. cash crop, there is a lot of interest surrounding the space.
Interest in industrial hemp companies like 22nd Century Group, Inc. (NYSE:XXII) has increased tremendously as they have announced breakthroughs such as their 0% THC industrial hemp plants and their phytoremediation program in partnership with The University of Virginia.
Breakthroughs such as these prove the tremendous potential of industrial hemp plants from medicinal benefits to environmental impact. The NHA helps to provide support to hemp industry participants like 22nd Century, as well as smaller companies operating in the space.
New Executive Director
According to an e-mail blast this morning, the National Hemp Association announced that they've hired Erica McBride as the Executive Director for the NHA. “Erica brings NHA years of private sector administrative experience combined with years of legislative advocacy, Industrial Hemp education and non-profit administration”, said Geoff Whaling, Board Chairman at the NHA.
Whaling continued to comment that “her no nonsense, get it done, approach will be a welcome addition to an organization that is laser focused on passing federal legislation, educating the public and serving our membership.”
McBride was instrumental in jump-starting the Pennsylvania legislation that provided farmers and hemp advocates the opportunity to cultivate hemp for the first time in eight decades. As Secretary and Treasurer of the Pennsylvania Hemp Industry Council, McBride "brings organizational and management skills, creativity and ability to the organization."
Beyond her legislative reform work, McBride is also managing three of Pennsylvania’s hemp trials this year, so she is most certainly hands-on in the hemp industry.
“I am extremely grateful for this opportunity to serve NHA and its membership”, said McBride. “These are exciting times for the Industrial Hemp Industry and I look forward to helping to bring forth all of its potential for farmers, manufacturing, retail and the environment into reality.”
