1,960 Pounds of Marijuana Intercepted in Two Seizures

PROGRESO, Texas – U.S. Customs and Border Protection Office of Field Operations officers working at the Progreso/Donna Port of Entry confiscated a total of 1,960 pounds of marijuana in two separate seizures which took place over the last couple of days.

 

“These narcotics interceptions are a direct result of layered enforcement and excellent observational skills by our CBP officers,” said Port Director Carlos Rodriguez, Progreso/Donna Port of Entry. “I commend their hard work and dedication to the CBP mission.”

 

On Monday, April 24, CBP officers assigned to the Progreso International Bridge Cargo Facility encountered a white 1975 Kenworth tractor hauling a commercial shipment of fine grain marble on a flatbed trailer. The conveyance was referred for a secondary inspection for a routine secondary exam. During the secondary inspection, CBP officers detected inconsistencies in the commodity and subsequently extracted 140 packages containing a total of 854 pounds of alleged marijuana concealed within the commodity.

 

On Friday, April 21, CBP officers working the Progreso International Bridge Cargo Facility encountered a white 1996 Volvo tractor hauling a commercial shipment of cinder block on a flatbed trailer. The conveyance was referred for a secondary inspection after the primary officer observed discrepancies within the trailer. In secondary, CBP officers extracted 333 packages containing a total of 1,106 pounds of alleged marijuana concealed within the flatbed trailer.

 

CBP OFO seized the narcotics, both seizures have a combined value of approximately $484,793. The case remains under investigation by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations (ICE-HSI) special agents.
