The week ending April 15th, 2017 was a big week for the cannabis world. The biggest news out had to be Canada's framework for recreational marijuana legalization. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is on track to make Canada the second country in the world (behind Uruguay) to totally legalize marijuana. If only the United States would follow suit! This only fueled the buzz surrounding the medical marijuana ETF up in Canada that has soared since the IPO last week.
The most popular coverage on The Daily Marijuana Observer was regarding whether or not Canadian LP hopeful Beleave Inc. is an acquisition target for Canopy Growth Corp. or not. While it may just be speculation, there has been a strong trend of late-stage ACMPR applicants being scooped up by opportunistic suitors.
Beyond the coverage on the rapidly developing Canadian cannabis industry, there has been a lot of interesting cannabis news out of the United States and beyond this week.
Cannabis Sativa made a move to acquire all of the White Rabbit brand's I.P. for their popular cannabis oral sprays and mints. This is further proof that a little research and development followed by some grade-A branding can get you pretty far in the cannabis industry.
Also making acquisition moves this week was MYM Nutraceuticals. The company just closed their acquisition of HempMed, a Toronto-based developer and marketer of hemp-based CBD extracts and oil-infused nutraceutical products.
A few different cannabis companies reported financial results this week including Aphria, CannaRoyalty, Kush Bottles and Invictus MD's Future Harvest Development Ltd. Be sure to dig through these results to see what investment opportunities exist for the week ahead!
There was a handful of interesting news out this week in the law category. First off, the makers of the popular G Pen handheld vape devices won a major battle in court. Grenco Science was awarded a cool $47 million after winning a long-standing counterfeiting case. Infringing on intellectual property never ends well, especially when the trademarks are worth so much.
Also happening in the intellectual property side of the cannabis industry was Lexaria Bioscience's announcement that they'll be developing edible cannabinoid mouth-melt products with Neutrisci International using Lexaria's patented technologies.
It was a pretty hot week for marijuana busts by United States Customs and Border Protection. Most recently, marijuana valued in excess of $75,000 was busted at Arizona's Port of Lukeville. Earlier in the week at a different Arizona checkpoint, 45 bundles of marijuana were seized worth an approximate $413,000.
The first of many articles in the series came out today, titled 5 Cool Jobs in the Marijuana Industry. The Daily Marijuana Observer partnered with 420JobsBoard.com to bring our readers a sampling of cool gigs in the cannabis industry to show that there are ways to make money in the cannabis industry as well as off of the cannabis industry.
This week we added a database for marijuana stocks listed on the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange. In addition, we added marijuana stock profiles for a few different cannabis companies. We're constantly trying to make improvements here at The Daily Marijuana Observer, so please don't hesitate to contact us with any constructive criticism or requests.
