After publishing our breakdown of General Cannabis' S-1 filing yesterday, we received a question from a few readers: "What is a S-1 filing?"
The S-1 is a registration with The Securities and Exchange Comission (SEC) for public companies to register new shares of common stock or other securities. Most know of Part 1 of the S-1 as a prospectus, which is a legal document detailing the company's business, intended use of proceeds, offering price and more.
S-1 filings are a great way for any marijuana stock investor to find valuable details about their current or prospective investments. For a more in-depth explanation on S-1 forms, see Investopedia's break-down here.
