Medical Marijuana, Inc. Investment AXIM Biotechnologies Files Intellectual Property Application for THC Extraction Method

AXIM Biotechnologies, Inc. (OTC:AXIM) announced today that they have filed an intellectual property (IP) application with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) for a highly complex method of THC extraction. Tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC, is the valuable psychoactive cannabinoid present in cannabis plants. Once extracted, it can be turned into a variety of high margin cannabis derived products like tinctures and more.

AXIM won't be making tinctures with it, but rather begin developments of "novel and revolutionary drug products," according to Medical Marijuana, Inc. (OTC:MJNA) CEO DR. Stuart Titus.  AXIM believes that this method can produce THC extract with a higher purity than conventional methods being used today.

MJNA Investment

AXIM Biotechnologies, Inc. is 45.5% owned by Medical Marijuana, Inc. according to a recent MJNA research report published by StoneBridge Partners. This gives interested investors two different ways of gaining exposure to AXIM. Either a pure play investment in AXIM, or a more diversified play through MJNA. Either one is set to benefit from this valuable IP portfolio that AXIM is building. Just recently, AXIM was granted a valuable patent for cannabinoid-containing controlled-release chewing gum.

For the Chemists

According to AXIM, their THC extraction method differs from conventional methods because "a neutral metal salt or inorganic base solution saturated with the metal neutral salt and adjusted to basic pH enables separation of the THC-A layer and significantly increases the yield. THC-A is then decarboxylated in a water/ethanol solution to render THC at a purity greater than 95%."

That might not make too much sense to many, so the Figure 1 included with the IP application might help:

Collaboration

This intellectual property was developed in joint collaboration with Syncom B.V.. Syncom is a Netherlands-based synthesis solutions company serving the biotech and pharmaceutical industries.
