Earlier this week, it was reported that a British Airways morning flight from London's Gatwick Airport (LGW) to Crete's Heraklion Airport (HER) was forced to return back to Gatwick for an emergency landing after "the smell was unmistakable." At this point, the flight was already roughly 90 minutes into its journey.
Firefighters boarded the British Airways flight in search of the source of the smell but no source has been reported. Presumably, if someone was vaping or smoking marijuana in the bathroom, then they had plenty of time to stop what they were doing and return to their seat.
Regardless, this cost British Airways thousands of euros, and cost customers hours of travel delays. For those of us who were not held up by these delays, it's at least a good laugh.
