Ministry of Railways seeks a review of the webcast of the weekly radio program of Union Minister of Railways, Saumya.
Pursuant to this, the Ministry of Railways issued a letter dated July 5, 2017, to the Union Minister of Railways and other public authorities to ensure that the aforementioned item on the weekly radio program “National Programme for Radio and Public Broadcast”, being produced by the top private sector, will be broadcast exclusively in Pakistan and not in India.
Though the Ministry of Railways on July 7, 2017, justified their action on behalf of the Board of Governors (BoG) of Radio Pakistan, it should be clear that a private television channel carried the program to the public even before the airing of the program on Radio Pakistan. The message was also disseminated on various social media platforms.
In a statement released on July 5, 2017, the Ministry of Railways expressed their regret on media coverage of the program and requested the media outlets to withdraw all reports of the program.
It should be noted that gave feedback and gave a written assurance to the program-makers to transmit it on the Indian airwaves, still, the Pakistan channels are still airing the same program on the weekdays, despite repeated requests by the Ministry.
The Ministry of Railways could not take the opportunity to boast that despite having the cooperation of Pakistani authorities, the Indian webcast was not allowed to air. Even a denial by Pakistan may not have been the motivation for Ministry to pursue this long, given that Ministry of Railways never resorted to this step for any program aired by any private media.
Keeping in mind that the reason behind Ministry’s push for this broadcasting is because of the success of the Top 30 competition launched by Top 30, one can view this as a measure taken in order to discourage those who tried to ruin the competition.
Pak24tv said it was not its intention to give away the slot and insisted that it would continue to air the program in India. The satellite channel said it would provide the setting for the webcast by Pak24tv.
